Week 2 · Lesson 4 · P1 · Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11)

Quadratics 3: Quadratic Functions, Roots & Turning Points

By the end of the lesson students can
Sketch quadratic functions showing their roots, y-intercept and turning point, and use the completed-square form to find the line of symmetry.

WMA11 1 · Quadratic functions & graphs
Quick check FA2
Rationalising & completing the square
Misconceptions to watch for
Multiplying only the denominator by the conjugate; sign of the turning point from (x+p)²+q read as (p, q); dividing by x and losing the root x = 0.
Then the unit test SA1 (week 12)
SA1: P1 Mock Paper · Calculator · 1 h 30 · 75 marks
In the full plan, every lesson also has
The starter for the week, practice and homework on the topic in one click, and a tick to mark it taught for your class.
